How we calculate
Not a rule of thumb, but a simulation of a full year. So you see what a battery really does in your situation.
Your solar power
We spread your annual production over the months and the hours of the day, with sunny and cloudy days. In winter your panels produce much less.
Your consumption
We use a typical consumption profile, adjusted to when you are at home, your electric car and your heat pump.
The battery
Charging with your surplus, discharging when you need power. We take charging and discharging losses into account, as well as a realistic charging power.
The advice
We compare different sizes and choose the size beyond which an extra kWh delivers noticeably less.
Good to know
How accurate is this calculation?
We simulate your consumption and your solar production hour by hour over a full year, with sunny and cloudy days. Still, it remains an estimate: every household uses energy differently. With the quarter-hourly data from your digital meter, we make the advice more accurate.
Why do you show a range and not an exact saving?
Your saving depends on your energy prices, your habits and the weather. That is why we show a range. We do not promise savings we cannot deliver.
Is a home battery worth it without solar panels?
With a fixed contract, usually not. A battery mainly stores your own solar power for later. That is why, without panels, the calculator shows the scenario with solar panels and a battery together.
Is the capacity tariff included?
Not yet. The capacity tariff charges your highest quarter-hour peak per month. A battery with smart control can lower that peak. We look at this during the advice meeting, because it depends heavily on your consumption.
What if I have a dynamic contract?
Then a smartly controlled battery can charge when power is cheap and discharge when power is expensive. That extra benefit is not yet included in this calculation. We are happy to discuss it with you.
Which size do you recommend?
We look for the size beyond which every extra kWh of storage delivers noticeably less. That way you do not pay for capacity you rarely use. In your result you can also compare other sizes.
